About This Project

The Geobots have had the pleasure of working with the world-famous auctioneers, Thomas Watson – who are renowned for their wealth of knowledge and accurate valuations of antiques, jewellery, fine art and quality period furnishings – for five years now. Thomas Watson has been based in the North East for over 170 years, and people travel the length and breadth of the country to sell their beloved antiques and prized possessions at their auctions in Darlington.

Although the antiques Thomas Watson sell may be historic, they understand that they must move with the current times in order to provide an improved customer experience for their niche market. So how do you move a centuries-old auction into the 21st century and ever-evolving digital age?

Thomas Watson unveiled their new and improved website in September 2017, following the decision to undergo a major website revamp which would not only improve the user-friendliness of the website, but would set them apart from competition in terms of the aesthetics and functionality.

The online catalogue website allows Thomas Watson to upload an eCommerce-style online catalogue to showcase antiques prior to auction, with an estimation of selling price. One of the main functionalities that gives Thomas Watson a competitive edge is the live bidding feature, allowing potential buyers to bid on items remotely from the comfort of their own home without actually attending a live auction – super helpful for customers that are overseas or unable to travel!

There is also a calendar feature enabling eager bidders and antique enthusiasts to easily find out when the next auction will take place.
