Step 12 – Add a copyright notice.

How many websites do you see without a copyright notice? Often people don't pay attention to the fine detail, but you do need to add a copyright notice to your website. Luckily it is easy to add a copyright notice to a WordPress theme.

How to add a copyright notice to your WordPress theme:

  1. Log into the WordPress dashboard as an administrator.
  2. From the 'Appearance' menu option select 'Editor'.
  3. Select the 'footer (footer.php)' file.
  4. Now find a div tag area at the bottom to place the code, but depending on your theme, you might need to create a new div. The copyright code you will need to place will be similar to: © 2012 your details All rights reserved.
  5. Once you've made the changes you should select 'Update File'.

If you need to create a new div element, you could create something similar to:

<div id=”copyright”>&copy; 2012 your details All rights reserved.</div>

Then you will need to amend your Stylesheet (style.css) file, with something similar to:

#copyright { margin 5px; color: black; }

Step 13 – Setup a WordPress backup plugin.

There is no point creating a website, but failing to perform regular backups. Often people forget to do manual backups, so automating the whole or part of the process will help. A good plugin to use to automate the database and files is 'BackupWordPress'. It is free and you can configure it to automatically either backup both site and mssql database, or just the database. You can even have a backup emailed to you.

How to install the plugin manually:

  1. Download the plugin and uncompress the archive.
  2. Upload the plugin's folder and files via FTP to the directory /wp-content/plugins
  3. Now log into the WordPress dashboard as an administrator.
  4. From the 'Plugins' menu option, activate the plugin.
  5. Now configure the plugin via its configuration page.

Conclusion

We hope you've found the thirteen steps, covered in the seven part WordPress setup guide useful. Please don't forget if you require a WordPress developer in the UK, you should hire Geonet Solutions.
