As of January 1st 2007, new amendments to the Companies Act 2006 dictates businesses must disclose their full company name, registered address and registration number on all company websites, regardless of whether they trade online. You may be able to comply with this by adding these details to the main body content of your website pages yourself using your CMS. A more thorough solution is to add a new text field to your contact details, into which these details can be inserted discretely but inline with the guidelines of the legislation.
Please contact us if you wish us to initiate these important improvements.
You will need to include the following:
- If a company, the company's registration number should be given and, under the Companies Act, the place of registation should be stated (e.g. "XYZ Enterprises Limited is a company registered in England and Wales with company number 1234567") . If not a limited company, then the actual status i.e. partnership.
- If the business is a member of a trade or professional association, membership details, including any registration number, should be provided.
- If the business has a VAT number, it should be stated even if the website is not being used for e-commerce transactions.
- Prices on the website must be clear and unambiguous. Also, state whether prices are inclusive of tax and delivery costs.
